Building up the the GSB how is your country doing

In Australia last moth there was an amazing effort look at these stats
154,598 OBSERVATIONS an increase of 24 thousand observations
13,616 SPECIES more than 1000 more species
2,549 IDENTIFIERS
7,061 OBSERVERS fewer observers than last year

https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?d1=2022-09-01&d2=2022-09-30&place_id=6744&subview=map&view=species

So far this month there have been 96,606 OBSERVATIONS will Australia break 200,000 in October?
or maybe even 300, 000?
lets see and get out and about this month when you can and contribute to the GSB at the end of the month!

We are curious as to how your country is going this spring?

southern Africa: August: 67,0k (50% more than 45,3 in 2021), September: 70,7k (6% to 66,8k) October: 34,5k (56,1k - this time last year: 60%)
This years low Oct - probably because the Med region has had an early summer (Sept was 50% rainfall, and October has had very little rain). And the summer rainfall region is still waiting for rain.

@tonyrebelo ... we're saving up for next weekend! GSB 2021 started on 22nd - might have had some impact?
Thanks for the interesting stats.

BOTSWANA

With the end of Covid restrictions the number of visitors and tourists participating in iNaturalist in Botswana
has greatly increased but participation by locals has declined a lot !
October has been disappointing. It has been extremely hot and dry and most of the country has had no rain at all up to Oct 22.
October has seen a sharp decline in iNat activity so far. Let's see what happens when it pours ! High rainfall might bring the local iNaturalists out of aestivation.

BOTSWANA------2021--------2022
AUG
Observations-----823 --------2626

Species------------304---------500
Observers________24------------35

SEPT
Observations-----890 -------- 1180

Species------------357-----------557
Observers________30------------37

OCT Up to 22nd Oct each year
Observations-----947 --------455

Species------------420-------- 237
Observers________28---------- 24

I suspect as well, that Southern Africans tend to post late?. Checking - - -
Observations posted (irrespective of observation date): 1-22 October
2021: 52,809
2022: 60,375
Seen October 10-2 2021, posted in October 1-22 2021:: 32,836 - so 2022 is better with 34,772

Yes lets see what happens, there has been too much water on the east coast again this year, wish we could send some your way @botswanabugs

Too much water for humans? Do the plants and insects agree?

Inlagt av tonyrebelo över 1 år sedan

Plants are loving it, and the insects are not bad either (so many orchids on inat that i have never seen before). But there are large floods, and some of the wheat needs had a dry spell before harvest
