By early to mid summer the leaves of this species have wilted and blown away and the persistent fruiting head is most conspicuous. Cymopterus acaulis is distinguished by green leaves arising several together from the top of a pseudoscape and flowers with white petals. This site lies in the Idaho National Laboratory, south end of the Lemhi Range, Butte County, Idaho, just north of highway 33.
Observed in Masacre Rock State Park. Power County, ID. Elevation 4150. SW aspect with ~10% slope; about 50 ft from the Snake River. In an open, sunny patch growing near juniper, sand drop seed, other Poaceae species, and Artemesia species.
