Flower scarab - Valgus canaliculatus (males, ~5 mm)
These were all over the persimmon flowers, often disappearing most of the way down into the flower. I have usually found them on Viburnum previously. These always remind me of ticks. Genus name is Latin valgus, "bow-legged".
These are canaliculatus (versus V. seticollis), based on:
Female of canaliculatus has long process on pygidium, lacking here, so these should be males. It seems that primarily males visit flowers (Ratclifee and Paulsen). The species is termetophilous--eggs, larvae, and adults can be found in the galleries of Reticulitermes flavipes (several references below).

Male is coming up behind her on another plant stem. I had hoped to get a photo of them mating, but the female flew off when I got too close with my phone.

Male kept on singing for a minute after female decamped. Got a sound recording with phone, though there was wind. Sound and sonogram included.

Its abdomen tapers off. It is feeding on Blunt Mountain Mint, Pycnanthemum muticum.
