P. gandalfiana nom. prov.
Infecting buds on one of our backyard Rhododendron bushes. Abundant synnemata covering infected bud.
Harvested infected bud with multiple fruiting bodies(scraped directly onto glass slide) for microscopy.
Mounted cluster of synnemata in 3% KOH.
Conidia: globose, subglobose to ovoid in shape.
Medium sized.
Dehydrating infected bud wrapped in tissue paper overnight to preserve attached synnemata for genetic record.
My corresponding Mushroomobserver observation below-
Cap hairy. Odor unpleasant, fishy and slightly anise. At urban forest edge near parking lot - doug fir, western hemlock, western red cedar. Small, round spores. Dried/saved.
Fruiting beneath Douglas fir and big leaf maple.
Gills: very tightly packed/crowded.
Lacks spots: immaculate, even in age.
Reminiscent of Rhodocollybia(but completely clean/lacking spots or staining).
Odor: strangely akin to bbq sauce.
Cap drying pinkish.
Harvested both specimens and dehydrated for herbarium collection.
Herbarium label: Marasmiaceae/possibly Gerhardtia.
My coinciding Mushroomobserver observation below-
Found on nettle flowers. Many present. ~1mm long.
